We think nearly everyone at some time has owned a pair of Adidas Gazelles. They are way up there with the Adidas classics, you know Stan Smith, Samba and the Superstar silhouettes. Some sneakers are so eternally stylish, that no matter what, at some time you’ll turn back to them again. In 196 they were first introduced to us, and in the 80s their popularity rocketed, before being succeeded by the Stan Smith, which reigned as the natural successor and stood its ground for years as everyone’s sneaker choice.
But along came the low cut, low-fi and very much retro, pared back Gazelles’ lines and not to shy away from the likes of rainbow colours like mustard yellow, blues, and reds either, that added an instant cool look. For guys a wear-with-anything type of sneaker that went on to become even more of a wear with everything when they became known as the trainer with the three stripes after having a modern overhaul in 2016.
Adidas Gazelle In a Primeknit fabric version, that works well as it gives a sporty texture where once it would be suede, and with a striking pattern that stands out, if you want to but a Gazelle in a different colour and fabric format, and these are perfect for a more casual attire, like joggers, jeans and shorts than maybe the suede counterparts.
The Gazelles makes life a lot easier, as the aforementioned colourways, from black to green, you can wear a pair with anything in your wardrobe, smart, tick, business casual, tick, shorts, tick casual, tick and darn well just jogging around, tick, the styling opportunities are endless, and that makes them sensible shoes that are also superstylish, and we’re ready to get the next new ones right in our wardrobes.
The Gazelle’s pared-back lines make it the minimalist’s sneaker of choice. And what is the most popular, the favourite style, Black and white, naturally, and not only are they the perfect addition to the strict monochrome palette, the iconic three stripes run alongside graphic prints. When you’re in this mood, wear them with deconstructed black denim jeans, throw on a white tee and, hey presto, this will be the timelessly cool look as always. A pared back basic black combination is always smart, but there is a secret weapon that will help to enliven neutrals with a single colour pop accent, like red, green, and blue gazelles to add a splash of vibrancy to really muted winter shades. Too bold for you? Then go for slate grey that will strike a more sophisticated note. Simple but effective.
